Summer term 2

Hi and welcome back to the final half term! We have lots of exciting things planned as we enter our final half term.

Mrs Airey works between Birch and Willow Class and will support Birch Class Wednesday and Thursday afternoon and all day Friday as a SEND TA.

On Tuesday afternoons, Mrs Airey teaches Birch class as a HLTA.

Mrs Rose supports Birch Class all day Monday and Tuesday as well as Wednesday and Thursday morning as a SEND TA.

In Birch, we work collaboratively to REACH our full potential.

This half term, In English, we will be reading ‘ BlueJohn’ where we will be working on using a range of sentence structures and the correct tense. We will also be developing our use of paragraphs and use of vocabulary. In history, we will be finding out what life was like in Ancient Egypt finding out why the River Nile was so important and what life was like. We will also be researching why gods and goddesses were so important. Our RE topic is ‘How do Humanists arrive at their views about the world? ’ where will be considering how Humanists arrive at their view on the world and what helps them make decision as to how to make the world a better place. PE will be on a Wednesday and Friday so please ensure that full PE kits are in on both days.

Hopefully, we will have some warm weather this half term so please ensure your child has a water bottle and sun hat. Thanks!

Reading and Times Tables

‘The more you read, the more things you will know. The more you learn, the more places you’ll go.’

We regard reading as high importance in Clutton and encourage children to read as often as possible. This year we will be using paper reading diaries. Please ensure that your child reads 4-7 times a week and this is recorded in their reading diary. Children who met this expectation will have an additional play once a week where children who need to catch up on their reading will have the opportunity to do so.

Times tables/ spellings

This half term there will also be homework set on TT Rockstars where you child will have 3 minute tests to complete each week. These are very quick but please ensure that your child completes them as they will help with their rapid recall. They will be set on Monday to be completed by the Sunday to start again on the Monday.

Your child can also practise using other games/apps or orally if preferred.

This half term, your child will also have spellings to learn for a test each Thursday. Please ensure that your child practises their spelling ready for their test.

Please also ensure that your child has a bottle of water in school daily.
