Oak class

Welcome to Oak Class!

I hope you have all had a relaxing break and are feeling refreshed and raring to go.

In the mornings, Oak Class are taught by Mrs Baines (Monday to Thursday) and Mrs Hartwell- Jones on a Friday. In the afternoon, they are taught by Mrs Browne (Monday ,Wednesday and Friday,) Mrs Airey who works as a HLTA on a Tuesday and Mrs Hartwell-Jones on a Thursday. Changes in staff help to prepare our children for high school and aid their transition.

Miss McWilliams supports Oak Class as a SEND TA. Mrs Rose also supports Birch and Oak Class on a  Monday and Tuesday, as well as Wednesday and Thursday mornings as a SEND TA.

In Oak Class, we work collaboratively to REACH our full potential.

Through learning together, we work to support our children to become:

Resilient

Engaged

Ambitious

Creative

Healthy

What are we learning in the second half of the spring term ?

In English, this half term, we will be reading Oscar Wilde’s book, “The Selfish Giant” and exploring the setting, characters and events in order to help us retell the story. Rich description and detail will be key as well as developing our skills in using dialogue in our writing. We will continue to study another of Wilde’s stories for children in guided reading sessions too – The Happy Prince.

In Maths, we will be working on fractions, decimals and percentages while Mrs Hartwell-Jones continues to focus on geometry – shapes and angles.

Our Science unit this half term will be Materials and will concentrate on the mixing and separating of different substances. The children will explore various separation methods including sieving, filtering and evaporation and investigate the factors which affect the rate of evaporation. They will also explore a range of substances to find which are soluble.

Don’t forget! The Science Fair at Bishop Heber High School is on Monday 10th March too so keep working hard on those projects about, “Change and Adapt.”

SATs Booster Club continues this half term for Y6 pupils each Tuesday –  3.15-4.15p.m.

How can I support my child?

‘Reading is a passport to countless adventures’

As a parent, one of the most important things you can do for your child is to make time to share a book with them. At Clutton, we recommend that your child reads between 4-7 times each week. Please remember to sign their reading diaries and share any comments about their reading too.

“Knowing your times tables is the key to unlocking the world of maths.”

In Oak Class, multiplication facts are key to many parts of the maths curriculum and as such we encourage the children to continue learning their times tables and to improve the speed of their recall. TT Rockstars is a fantastic way for your child to become fluent with their times-tables and weekly tasks are set throughout the year.

Maths homework is also set weekly in Oak Class using MyMaths.

PE kits will be required on Wednesdays and Fridays. Please try to ensure that your child’s name is on all their clothing.

We encourage pupils to bring a bottle of water into school every day as well as one healthy snack to enjoy at break time.

Thank you for your continued support and should you have any questions please do ask or email me at: nbaines@clutton.cheshire.sch.uk
